Rock Steady
Kelis is fucking awesome. She's funky, soulful and she's got a punk-rock attitude that sets her apart from the usual R&B diva crew. I first heard this song in Amsterdam, on some music-video show and it wormed it's way into my skull and became the sonic backdrop for that whole trip. I don't think I could ever get sick of hearing it, which puts it in a rare category of pop tunes along with...well shit, i can't reallly think but i'm sure there are a few. Any suggestions?

Fade Away and Radiate
Mr. Stephen McBean, under his Pink Mountaintops guise, is releasing a new record called Outside Love on Jagjaguwar on May 5th. I pretty much like whatever this guy does - he could record himself taking a nap and it would probably be better than most of the crap that passes for rock music these days. [Crotchety grandpa alert] It's not gonna redefine the parameters of modern music - in fact, it's pretty well rooted in a 60s/70s, gauzy stoner vibe - but it's compelling nonetheless. The Pink Mountaintops lyrics seem to gravitate towards sex-related themes which is not usually my cuppa tea, but if you think about his band's names (Pink Mountaintops, Black Mountain, get it?!?), it's not that surprising. And somehow it's actually kind of endearing. Here's a song (seemingly not about sex per-se) from the new album, called 'While We Were Dreaming'.
And here's a link to another one, called 'Vampires'
